Tuatara Reports

Room 10 recently visited the Tairawhiti museum and created tuatara pictures using a variety of materials and textures. We then wrote a report which we attached to our art.

Tuatara

Tuataras are not lizards. They are reptiles from a family called Sphenodon. The name tuatara means spiny back in maori.

Tuatara look spiky but they have soft skin. Tuataras can camouflage which means they change colour with the background when they touch something. They look like lizards.

Tuataras live underground in burrows.You can only find Tuataras crawl and eat insects, bugs and even baby tuataras.By Miah

Tuataras   are reptiles  known  as  sphenodons  but  they  are  not  lizards. Tuatara means spiny back in maori.

Tuataras  are very fast. Tuatara have scaly skin,3 eyes ,sharp  claws and 4 legs. Tuataras are green  but they can change colour.  They have spikes , teeth and a tail.

They are native to New Zealand so people can’t find them anywhere else in the world.

Tuataras

Tuataras are reptiles. These reptiles are called sphenodon. They are not lizards.

Tuataras have a tail. They have a third eye on its head. It has sharp claws. They also have a long tail and spikes on their backs.

They live under ground and are native to New Zealand. They bite and hold it for a long time. They run fast so they can get away from their predators. They eat insects, such as beetles, seabird and wetas. They are master of camouflaging which means they turn into different colours.

Tuataras have lived in New Zealand millions of years. Tuataras are reptiles.  They can look invisible because they are masters of camouflage.

Tuataras have scaly skin.  It is a wrinkly creature.  It has four sharp little claws and three eyes. They run, walk, eat and play.

Tuataras

Tuataras are not lizards but they are reptiles. Tuatara means “spiny back” in Maori. All types of things kill Tuataras so scientists are trying to stop them from extinction.

It has lots of spikes. They are really random because their ear is under its skin. Also they have three eyes. The skin feels so wrinkly.

They live under the ground in burrows. It’s the master of camouflage. It goes hunting and when it bites it doesn’t let go for a very long time.

Tuataras are reptiles. They come fromNew Zealand. They are unusual.Its ears are inside its skin. In Māoriits name means  spinyback.

It has three eyes.Its thirdeye doesn’t see. They can growup to 60 cm long and live up to a hundred years.

Tuataras live in the wild in burrows underground.  They have lived in New Zealand for at least eighty million years. They lay eggs and run fast. They are the masters of camouflage. They bite for ages.  They stab with their claws and kill insects by hunting them down.

Tuatara

It has a third eye, 4 legs and it has a tail. It has spikes on its back. Male tuatara can grow up to 60 cm. It has scaly skin and it has claws on its feet.

 It lives in New Zealand in burrows under the ground.

It bites for a long time. It eats beetles and weta and eats lizards and even baby tuatara! It can change colours to  whatever they touch like grass or plants.  They move quite fast.

Tuatara are reptiles not lizard

Tuatara  have soft and scaly skin. Tuatara have white spikes on there backTuatara have three black eyes, one on its head, two on the side. They have sharp teeth. 

Tuatara live in islands off New Zealand.

Tuatara come out at night to hunt. They eat weta, beetles, sea birds, lizards and baby tuatara. They move quite quickly.
